Ali Johnson hand makes her beautiful, natural soap Sphaera here in Wellington, New Zealand and it is sold in New Zealand's finest homeware/design stores. With such an elegant product I focused on extracting the fine details of her product through the styling and photography, bringing out Ali's incredibly sophisticated colour palette, textures and bevelled edges.
The Kiss Co, as well as being publishers of The Great New Zealand Wrapping Paper books, publish two charming children's books and gift tags for all occasions. The books are written by Ami Muir, founder of The Kiss Co, and are illustrated by Sara Mutande and Becky Lazarevic. This is our third project together, for which we have an established colour palette and styling direction. I look forward to the third instalment in the series of wrapping paper books, due shortly!
For our third project together, Eloise and I worked on styling and photographing the products and services that she offers at The Neighbourhood Studio, alongside the classes that I have photographed for her before. As well as providing custom screen printing services, Eloise also sells the materials one might need to work self directed at the studio. In studio you can find artwork by Alani Mckenna, Forest Drawn, Flora Waycott and Amy van Luijk.
Wundaire is the brand name of the unique, hand formed pottery made by Felicity Donaldson. From her studio in Wellington she produces work for restaurants and private clients, teaches classes and collaborates with high profile New Zealand brands on limited edition pottery pieces. These collaborations include notable New Zealand brands Kowtow and Meadowlark. She is the founder of Mug Mates, a mug subscription from a range of New Zealand potters curated by Felicity. We worked together to photograph product for online sales, ranging from her staple tableware shapes to one-off pit fired planters.
The Artists' Edition of The Great New Zealand Wrapping Paper Book is the second clever wrapping paper book from The Kiss Co and in this edition Ami Muir has bought together designs from 10 New Zealand artists and designers! Artwork from (brace yourself) Greg Straight, Ami Rogers, The Monster Company, Angela Keoghan, Sly & Co, Emma Hayes, Alex Fulton, Katrina Ward, Sally Shand and Sarah Rose.
UK based designer Sadie Hawker handcrafts each (often unique) piece for her jewellery collections. Working with the key colours from each collection I created images that embraced the fun and glamour of Sadie's pieces with a lot of sparkle and a good dose of Chanel.
Woolfresh is an innovative absorbent and deodorising wool product first introduced to market in the Llana bag and is now being produced as an element of a range of energy supporting socks. For this project the manufacture of the socks was a central concept and the patina and aesthetic of the factory in Levin, New Zealand was paired with product shots.
Natty is the brand of Wellington based designers Cat McKay and Fiona Gibb. All their product is handmade here in New Zealand and stocked in their charming Berhampore boutique and workshop as well as gift stores throughout New Zealand. Enjoy this selection of images of their textiles, stationary and jewellery! Shot in the Twig & Arrow studio, epic chair collection from Felicity at Wundaire and thanks to my gorgeous sister Rosie for assisting and modeling!
The Kiss Co is a New Zealand based publishing company and purveyor of beautifully considered children's books and gift products. Founder Ami Muir worked with illustrator Sara Mutande on The Great New Zealand Wrapping Paper Book to produce a collection of 10 wrapping paper designs that are contained cleverly as a book. Enjoy a selection of images from our take on kiwiana for a tasteful audience! Thanks as always to my hand model Anna Briggs, additional props from The Neighbourhood Studio and manicure from Spring Spa!
Llana is the thesis project of three Massey University Masters of Design students, Amy Blackmore, Avara Moody, Annabelle Fitzgerald and American entrepreneur Darrius Langston. It is a bag that bridges the gap between active and working lifestyles and is a result of the desire to incorporate an innovative moisture absorbing and deodorising product, Woolfresh, into the apparel market. The images for this project were to accompany the written component of the thesis of the three students and also to support the crowdfunding campaign to take the bag from prototype into production. Shot on campus at Massey Wellington, with landscape details from the Wellington region and our greenery plinth was created by Twig & Arrow. Model is Xanthe Whiteley from Kirsty Bunny.
